Lance Armstong's No Doper

Here is an article from The New York Times with news that allegations Lance Armstrong was doping were false.

This Week's Bridal

Unlike the weather when we shot Kathryn's engagement photos (big time rain storm) the weather was perfect for her bridals. We shot them at a few homes in Alpine near her soon-to-be inlaws live. I would love to have permission to shoot there for other brides, the locations were stunning. We made a lot of great images.

Thanks Micky D's

I just wanted to thank McDonalds for providing the meal that was thrown at me tonight while I was on a ride. I pedaled out to West Mountain and had just turned around to head back through Benjamin. I hear a car behind me, so I made sure I was hugging that white line. Next thing I know a bag of half-eaten fries and a cup of ice hit my car-side leg, fell the ground, and went beneath my back tire.

Car sped past and three grinning faces looked back at me through the car's rear window to see how I reacted. "Boneheads," I thought. I wanted to throw something back at them, but when it comes down to it I wouldn't have had much power in a headon if they had decided to turn around. So, chalk that meal up with the cigarette and the 32 oz. drink I've had trown at me.

Great Local Photographer

My younger brother works with the guy at Circuit City and passed on his web site because he figured I would be interested. His web site is cool (yet cumbersome) and his photography is great. I figured I would share with it with you. Check out the work of Bryan Niven here.

Ride of Silence Pics

Tonight I rode with a group of riders (around 50-60) in a ride through American Fork. We were escorted by two police officers on Motorbikes and 2 on mountain bikes as we rode through town. At many points we were able to just take up the whole road as the motorists pulled over to the side of the road. Here are a couple of pictures from the ride. The first was taken of the first half of the group as we rode down from Alpine. The second was taken at the end of the ride as we gathered around to say goodbye.

Nice Legs!

Saw this ad for a Norwegian bike maker Alta Bikes and thought I would share it. Those of you who are bikers may appreciate it. My legs looked similar to the ad after my mission, but the muscle has since turned to fat.

Holga Wedding Photos

Late last year I shot a wedding down at the Manti Temple. After we were done shooting, the videographer wanted some shots. I decided to follow along and take some shots with my Holga for fun. The bride and groom never saw these picture, but I think I will send them a CD. They turned out looking like shots taken a long time ago. Here are a couple of the shots.

Recent Engagement Photos

Last week I shot a set of engagment photos for a client. The day was nice up until the time we were to do the shoot. The dark clouds rolled in and the wind kicked up. I've shot in snow and I've shot in the cold, but I've never shot in the rain. For the first 30 minutes the rain held off, but we ended up shooting the last few sets in the rain. Once the lightning started we called it quites. Despite the dark clouds and all the wind, I think we ended up getting some great shots. Here is a collage with a few of them.

Start Seeing Cyclist

Shortly after graduating from high school I was out on country back road riding my mountainbike. I heard a car coming behind me and made sure I was as far right on the side of the road as I could get. As the car passed, it lightly tapped my handlebars pushing me to the gravel shoulder. The car continued to the shoulder in front of me, made a jerking couse correction to the left then swerved into the oncoming lane. The driver was either drunk or asleep. Either way, it was fortunate my encounter with the inattentive driver ended with me still standing rather than me playing the lead role as street pizza.

That was my closest call, but not my only experience with drivers who don't watch for cyclists.

Recently, an activist movement among cyclists here in Utah to bring attention to cyclists on the streets has gained a lot of attention in the media. On 5/17 riders are staging an event to bring more attention to the problem. I'm going to try to participate, but wanted to pass the information to all who may be interested in participating as well. Here is an excerpt from an email the Utah Velo Club sent out with the details of the ride:

Wednesday May 17, 2006:
Ride of Silence, max speed 12 MPH, 12 mile loop route to Alpine and back. In memory of cyclists killed or injured in accidents with motor vehicles. No fee for the ride, no talking, only hand signals. All cyclists invited and encouraged to participate. Wear a black arm band if you know someone who has been killed and a red arm band if you know someone who has been injured in an encounter with a motor vehicle and a bike. Wear both colors if you know both. We will meet at the Bike Peddler (24 E. Main St., American Fork) at 6:45 p.m. and will make the 12 mile loop up the Alpine Highway (100E) and come back on 1000 E. See web site Ride of Silence.

Tour of Utah 2006

Saw an article today in the Salt Lake Tribune giving information about the Tour of Utah. It looks like this year's event is more organized and well sponsored. Even Larry H. Miller is getting in on the action. I attended a few of the races last year and had a blast watching and taking pictures of the racers. You can view a few pictures that I took during the races here on Flickr. If you have the time, I recommend attending.

Holga Portraits

Last week my younger brother bought a scooter for his commute to school; I bought a couple of Holgas. Here are a couple of images we produced last weekend when we combined them both. The first is a picture of my brother, Lane, the second is a picture of me taking the picture.
