Covering the Game

Here is a quick pic Jason sent to me from the game last week. Loved getting a few shots in with the big glass, but it's harder than it looks. Seems I was always in the wrong place at the right time.

Video Friday: Imlay Canyon

I'm getting the bug. I need to get out more. Until I can post more of my own pictures and videos, here is one that I enjoyed. Dealing with keeper potholes is nerve-racking fun; these guys did it with ease.

"100 Hikes" Discounted

I just noticed that "100 Hikes in Utah" is discounted on Amazon.com. If you're looking for a copy, now would be a good time to pick one up. I don't think I can even get them directly from Mountaineers for that price.

Utah Outdoors

This weekend's trip reminded me of how much I love being outside hiking and camping. Since finishing "100 Hikes in Utah" the amount of time I'm out is approaching Zero. In fact, it's been 15 months since I took my last photo trip. (Oh, I took the family to a few national parks during that time, but that's not the same. I'm looking forward to the day my boys can strap on a pack and go for a few days.)

Because my current lifestyle doesn't lend itself to constant adventure, I've found some enjoyment in reading about the exploits of others. This blog is one that's I've enjoyed viewing. If you have favorites, please send them to me.

More Chaco Pics

I linked to Tom's blog earlier, but he just posted a gallery of pictures from the trip here. His pictures are much more descriptive---or tell the story---of our trip. Check them out.

Video from Chaco Canyon

Chaco Canyon

I spent the past couple of days with my friend Tom on a whirlwind road tour of the Southwest. We hit Moab UT, Durango CO, Farmingon NM, and then down to Chaco Canyon. Here are a few pictures from our visit to Chaco.

Principles of Leadership

Yesterday I attended a seminar at work during my lunch hour. The speaker, Doug Wood, spoke on the priciples of effective leadership. I took several pages of notes, so I figured I would share a few of them with you. Here are what Mr. Wood considers to be the "10 Principles of Leadership."

  1. Be a leader, not a victim

  2. Beware of your blindspots (know what you don't know)

  3. Take care of the important relationships

  4. Balance short-term and long-term needs

  5. Know and live your mission (write it down)

  6. Do what matters most, now

  7. Be a master communicator

  8. Be a great team player

  9. Commit 1 hour a day to personal renewal

  10. Live with integrity

"Rhett Olson" is unique

Thought this was pretty cool. This site uses sensus data to figure out how many people in the US have your name. Ends up there are actually 5,999 people in the US that have the name "Rhett." That number is pretty amazing when you consider there are 521,945 people with my wife's name, "Julie."

Last Week in Mexico

Julie and I spent the last week sitting on the beach in the Caribbean. You can view pictures from our trip here.
