Video Friday: Gun Free Zone

I think I need to sign up for this program so I can get the signs for my office. The video pokes fun at logic that people around the country seriously buy into. You may as well put up a sign that says "Hey come get me, I'm unarmed."

Video Friday: Jake Brown's Big Ride

I'm not a real skate fan, but I enjoy getting on my Arbor longboard from time to time. I saw this on the news last night and thought I'd post it. Consider it a bonus for Video Friday. There are several different angles of the launch at the end of the video. BTW, check out how the shoes launch on impact.

As promised in an earlier post, this is the video of me riding a mechanical bull at the Teton County Fair.

Video Friday: Into the Wild

I was excited to see that John Krakauer’s book "Into the Wild" is being made into a movie. From what I can tell from the trailer, they did a great job casting Emile Hirsch as Christopher McCandless. Can't wait to see it. According to IMDB, it should be released September 21, 2007.

Video Friday: Biathlons

When I was 14, a region Boy Scouts of America sponsored a biathlon in the mountains outside of Mt. Pleasant, UT. I didn't have a gun or skis, and the rest of my scout group didn't care to participate. But I wanted to, bad. So I borrowed a crappy .22 from a neighbor and my dad's seldom used X-country skis. I had my mom help me make a sling out of denim to carry my gun and was ready to go. (never mind I had only been on X-country skis once previously.

I crashed a lot, my gun jammed at the second shooting station, and I broke my dad's ski binding, but it was a great time.

Although the rules have been changed a bit in this video, it reminded me of my experience as a teenager.

Video Friday: Ouray Ice Climbing Festival

Last week I was in Ouray, CO and spent a few minutes at the Ice Park. I wanted to see what it looked like with all the ice and the climbers. Here's a good clip of the festival.

Here is a quick post from Silverton, Colorado. I didn't take much time to edit it, but at least I got something posted.

Video Friday: Valley of Fire

I spent the morning with my family at the Valley of Fire, NV. Here is a quick video of The Cabins. We also went to Overton beach. The marina was gone because the lake is down so fare, I'd estimate it to be down well over 100 feet. I'll try to post a photo later.

Video Friday: Brian Regan

For our closing keynote today, Brian Regan will be performing. Unfortunately for me, my plane leaves before he gets started. I had to go to Youtube to get my feel. Unfortunate I had to leave because he's funny.

Video Friday: Floyd Landis

On Stage 17 of last year's Tour de France, Floyd Landis made an amazing come back by gaining 8 minutes on the leader, (most of which he lost the day before when he bonked) putting him in postition to win the Tour. However, we know that afterward, the French botched a drug test on a questionable urine sample that subsequently caused Floyd to be banned from cycling.

I suppose as Americans, we live for the come-back story, a rise to victory. It's easy for us to assume that Landis is innocent. With all the uncertainty surrounding the circumstance, it's hard not to think the French were not pissed off (pun intended) at being beaten by another american. (The US has had a corner on the Tour for years because of Lance Armstrong.)

I think what is happening is unfair to Landis, but I don't care enough to send money.

Video Friday: Timpanogos

This post is for my new friends from Symantec and PWC. This video is a sunrise from the top of Timpanogos; only this view would beat the one from my office window.

Video Friday: Peekaboo Gulch

This morning I was thinking about Coyote Gulch. I searched Youtube for video but couldn't find any. So, I started searching for any of the gulches in my book. I looked for Buckskin Gulch, Lewellyn Gulch, Peekabo Gulch, and Upper Gulch, but I was only able to find one lame video from Grand Gulch. So, I went to google video and found this video of Spooky Gulch. (You can find it on page 186 of my book, 100 hikes in Utah.) The video is a little dry compared the canyoneering videos I've posted previously, but it was about all I could find.

This is a great little canyon for non-technical canyoneering. If you've done Bell and Little Wild Horse canyons, Peekaboo and Spooky should be next on your list.

BTW, if you find any other video of hikes in my book, please send me the link.

Video Friday: Imlay Canyon

I'm getting the bug. I need to get out more. Until I can post more of my own pictures and videos, here is one that I enjoyed. Dealing with keeper potholes is nerve-racking fun; these guys did it with ease.
