Here is a quick post from Silverton, Colorado. I didn't take much time to edit it, but at least I got something posted.

Road Trip: Ouray, CO
Here's the tourist shot.
Photo of the falls from the metal structure inside the canyon.
Jason and I made it to Ouray, CO today. It's a cool little old mining town. It's still the off season, so things are quiet. I mean chirping-birds quiet. We'll be camping on a dirt road out of town. Should be nice and chilly.
The photos above were taken at Box Canyon, just outside of town.

Family Portraits
The other night I was able to do a family portrait for a great couple. It was fun to work with them because I did their wedding over a year ago; it doesn't seem like it's been that long. (If you can get to my gallery, you'll see the bridals. She's the one with the cowboy hat.) We made some nice images. I especially like the candids we did at the end.

100 Hikes in Utah Photo - Bucksking Gulch
When I was 14 my best friend's dad took us on a trip through Buckskin. It was my first real hiking adventure and the start of my love for hiking. The start of the hike through Wire Pass was mind blowing. Squeezing through the canyon, removing our packs in spots to get through, made the hike 100 times more adventurous than anything I had done to that point. Having the energy of 14 year olds, my friends and I hiked ahead of the group and placed rocks in the mud as stepping stones for the rest of the group. Eventually we came to a pool that was too deep for rocks. I'll always remember wading through the cold, stinky water. To me, this hike was epic and will always be on my list of favorite spots in Utah to visit.

Video Friday: Valley of Fire
I spent the morning with my family at the Valley of Fire, NV. Here is a quick video of The Cabins. We also went to Overton beach. The marina was gone because the lake is down so fare, I'd estimate it to be down well over 100 feet. I'll try to post a photo later.

Used 100 Hikes
A few weeks back I asked for pictures of 100 Hikes in Utah. My friend Tom and I discussed this on our hike in Chaco Canyon and I thought it would be cool. Tom posted this picture, you can tell the book is well used.

Video Friday: Brian Regan
For our closing keynote today, Brian Regan will be performing. Unfortunately for me, my plane leaves before he gets started. I had to go to Youtube to get my feel. Unfortunate I had to leave because he's funny.

I've been in Las Vegas for the past few days for a company conference. Here's a picture that I took tonight of the Paris hotel.

Video Friday: Floyd Landis
On Stage 17 of last year's Tour de France, Floyd Landis made an amazing come back by gaining 8 minutes on the leader, (most of which he lost the day before when he bonked) putting him in postition to win the Tour. However, we know that afterward, the French botched a drug test on a questionable urine sample that subsequently caused Floyd to be banned from cycling.
I suppose as Americans, we live for the come-back story, a rise to victory. It's easy for us to assume that Landis is innocent. With all the uncertainty surrounding the circumstance, it's hard not to think the French were not pissed off (pun intended) at being beaten by another american. (The US has had a corner on the Tour for years because of Lance Armstrong.)
I think what is happening is unfair to Landis, but I don't care enough to send money.

100 Hikes in Utah Photo - Uintas Trek 1
This photo was taken during a trip I was unable to make. I had a finals at school that week and was relagated to dropping them off and picking them up. Steve and a friend hiked the length of the Highline trail in just under 3 days. They were decked out in lightweight, "fast packing" gear.
I believe parts of their hike can be found in the High Uintas Trek description on page 41.

From the Fallen
This post is a little outside my normal posts of photography and outdoors. Yesterday I read these letters written by soldiers who died in Iraq. It is very powerful reading. Whether you agree with the war or not, there is no doubt the soldiers understand America's responsibility to spread the freedom we enjoy here in the states.
